What does "Black Tie Optional" mean?
A "black-tie optional" dress code for a wedding gives guests the choice between a tuxedo or a dark suit for men, and a floor-length gown or a sophisticated cocktail dress for women.
The "optional" part means that formal attire is preferred, but a dressy suit or a knee-length or midi dress is also acceptable.
Guests should avoid overly casual attire.
